FAQ

What is a Pooka? And what is a Pooka Party?

Pooka is one of Alysha's middle names. If you know Indy Ray at all, you know that when he was really little he asked for his sister to be born. Because his parents were indulgent or they just thought it was cute, they let 4 year-old Indy select a middle name for his new little sister. And that is why Alysha’s California driver’s license lists her full name as “Alysha Brittnay Pooka Ray.” A Pooka party is a celebration of Alysha's life.

How do I get to the venue?

Will there be a service?

Not in the traditional sense. We'll have a memory table, an opportunity to share your favorite Alysha stories and experiences, and be with other people whose lives she touched. We'll also have a balloon release and paddle boards on site if you would like to get out on the lake.

Can I bring something for the memory table?

Yes if you feel moved to do so. Some suggestions for things to bring include photos, keepsakes, or items that simply remind you of Alysha. Just drop them on the designated table when you arrive. At the end of the event, you can leave them with the family or take them home with you.

Will there be food?

Yes! We'll have a small brunch spread from Bella Affair. Brunch is 100% gluten free and nut free and we have vegetarian options.

Can I bring my dogs?

Alysha loved our four legged friends, but unfortunately the venue is not dog friendly. However, it is situated on a public beach so you're welcome to bring furry family members to the beach.

Can I bring my children?

The venue is kid friendly and well behaved little ones are welcome.

Should I wear black?

Probably not. Alysha loved colors--especially pink and purple--so please feel free to wear what makes you comfortable, bright colors included.

I am traveling from out of town. Where should I stay?

Check out the Travel page for recommendations.

Should I bring a gift?

Please send any gifts directly to the family at the following addresses:

  • Andrea and Shawn: 15808 Windsor Way, Truckee, CA 94103
  • Indy: 1 Rausch Street, Unit D, San Francisco, CA 94103
  • Ken: 7455 Starhill Way, Sparks, NV 89436

We have also compiled a list of places to donate in honor of Alysha on the Donations page.

What happened during Alysha's last days?

Alysha fought cancer until the very end with loving support from her friends and family. She and her family kept a fairly detailed log of this experience at Alysha's Caring Bridge Site. Please be sensitive to the family and avoid asking too many questions unless they've indicated they are open to talking about the experience.

What do I do if I still have questions?

Email pookaparty@scatteredray.com and we'll try to get back to you as quickly as possible.
